Hourly Range: $28.00 - $32.00

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Summary

This is a safety sensitive position in the Public Works Department performing semi-skilled manual tasks and operating automotive and maintenance equipment to perform winter road maintenance and snow/ice removal duties. This position will be an on-call or as needed basis throughout the winter months only, typically October through April.

Essential Job Functions

  • Operates and maintains specialized vehicles, equipment and tools such as dump trucks with plow and sander to perform snow removal duties.
  • Works on call as needed during winter season, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Participates in and complies with the Departmental Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy. Complies with and ensures compliance with all  organizational values, policies, procedures and all verbal written instructions.
  • Maintains records of assignments completed. Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education and Experience

  • Must be 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • A valid Colorado Commercial Driver License Class B, with air brakes and tanker endorsements is preferred.
  • Must have had a valid driver’s license for at least two (2) years with a good driving record.
  • In lieu of a CDL, two (2) years of good driving history and snow removal experience will be considered.
  • Two (2) seasons of snow removal experience with a municipal agency is preferred.
  • A combination of education and experience to provide for the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record

  • The ability to work twelve (12) hour shifts during emergency conditions on short notice.
  • Working knowledge of equipment, materials, techniques and supplies used in snow removal.
  • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time, outside and in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to identify and implement risk management techniques to reduce exposure to injury, damage, and liability.
  • Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions and report operations both verbally or in written form.
