Community Celebration Events Press Onward
Kremmling, CO (June 30, 2023) – The Town of Kremmling, in an abundance of caution, will forgo hosting the fireworks scheduled for the evening of July 4th due to safety concerns. The Kremmling Chamber of Commerce will still be hosting the 4th of July celebration and activities in the Old Town Square.
For many years the Town of Kremmlings’s 4th of July fireworks display has been occurring from the Kremmling Cliffs. Two locations located on the top of the cliffs have been approved for the fireworks show.
The primary and preferred location falls within an area that is occupied by a protected species of wildlife that are monitored by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and U.S Fish and Wildlife Service. The Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act provides protection for the nest and nestlings. The primary location on the cliffs is not available due to an occupied nest of a protected species confirmed on June 30, 2023.
Refer to the US Fish and Wildlife's website regarding the Act.
The second or alternative location on the bluffs has been deemed unsuitable due to safety concerns.
“Due to the slope, uneven surface, and limited size of the work site, in addition to a lack of egress in the case of an emergency, Fire in the Sky will no longer shoot fireworks shows from the alternate site. Although Fire in the Sky approved the site originally in 2016, there have been too many hazards that could not be mitigated for us to continue using this site.” --Ken Wilkinson, Fire in the Sky
Alternative locations were explored in and around Kremmling. However, to best suit the needs of safe operation for the Town of Kremmling, and the fireworks vendor, none of these alternative locations were viable. The safety of our community and fireworks provider is a top priority for the Town of Kremmling.
Independence Day activities hosted by the Kremmling Chamber of Commerce will begin at 4pm and end at 10pm on July 4th. The Party in the Park will include live music, beer garden, and park activities for all ages. Please come out and support West Grand Wrestling’s community BBQ and the 4H pie sale.
The Town of Kremmling would like to thank the BLM, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Kremmling Chamber of Commerce and the Kremmling Fire Protection for their efforts put toward trying to find alternative solutions for the fireworks show. The Town will begin exploring more robust alternatives and redundancy plans for future firework shows.
Please contact Ashley Macdonald with the Town of Kremmling or Brittany VanderLinden with the Chamber of Commerce for additional information.
